Our Roads

General Info

There are about 40 miles of roads in the community. The portions of Pohaku, Laniuma, Orchidland and Aulii nearest the highway are paved. The side roads are generally gravel. A very few areas are simply dirt tracks. Keeping the roads in good condition is a challenge given the amount of rainfall and budget constraints.

Please note:
OLCA is NOT responsible for mowing along roads or for garbage or abandoned vehicle removal. The $65 annual road maintenance fee and the $100 annual paving fees are just for that, road maintenance and paving. We encourage our neighbors to mow the area where their property meets the road, and if possible, any nearby empty lots where they meet the roadway.

ROAD MAINTENANCE AND PAVING

Paving Schedule
A section of road is paved whenever enough money accumulates in the paving fund. Typically .8 miles is paved in each increment. That is roughly 2 crossing streets. The order in which the roads are to be paved is the result of careful consideration of traffic patterns and where we would get the biggest bang for the paving buck.

The actual date of paving cannot be predicted far in advance because the amount of the paving assessment is voted on by the general membership each year and thus, uncertain. Moreover, the amount collected depends on the number of members that actually pay up. We hope that the new, aggressive back fees collection program plus the new $100 paving fee (to be billed in October) will generate enough money to speed up the program. Best guess as of September 2006 is that Orchidland Drive from 39th to 41st will get paved in January, 2007. After that Aulii starting at 38th is planned.
